2013 Ames Oktoberfest Homebrew Competition


Thank you to everyone who helped coordinate, judge, and steward this competition to make it run as smoothly as possible.  We have tabulated the results (click below), and you should be receiving your score sheets shortly if you entered the competition.  Congratulations to Scott Nelson for his Best of Show win with a common cider!

Categories:  We will be accepting Lagers, German Ales, English Ales, Scottish & Irish Ales, and Meads & Ciders in the following BJCP categories:  1-9, 11, 15, 17A, 22A, 24-28


Entries will be received between the dates of September 14th and October 5th

  1. Eligibility

    1. This competition is open to all homebrewers 21 years and older.

    2. We will be accepting Lagers, German Ales, English Ales, Scottish & Irish Ales, and Meads & Ciders in the following BJCP categories:  1-9, 11, 15, 24-28

    3. This is a BJCP/AHA sanctioned competition, and all standard rules apply

    4. Commercial and/or Brew-on-Premises (BOP) beers are not eligible.


  1. Entry Requirements & Information

    1. Download entry form: Entry Form

    2. Refer to categories by number and to subcategories by letter

    3. Use the 2008 BJCP Style Guidelines when picking what style to enter your beer as:


    1. You must submit a complete Entry Form along with two (2) bottles of beer with attached Bottle Identification Forms: Bottle Labels

    2. Attach Bottle Identification Forms using a rubber band. Do not use glue or tape.

    3. All bottles must be crown-capped and 10-16 ounces in size.

    4. Bottles must be clean and free of paper labels or any other identifying marks.

    5. Bottles will not be returned after the competition

    6. Entries may either be shipped or dropped off at the locations listed above

    7. Entry fees must be in the form of a check made payable to "Ames Brewers League"



  1. Judging

    1. Beers will be judged according to BJCP 2008 Style Guidelines

    2. If the judges feel a beer was entered in the wrong category, they may choose to move the entry to a different category or sub-style
